Rome

Rome, “the Eternal City,” has long been a crossroads of peoples, cultures, and civilizations.  Today, it is the thriving capital of a modern and increasingly multicultural Italian state, and displays evidence of its ancient, medieval, and modern faces, often in stark juxtaposition.  It is not uncommon to find ancient monuments, Renaissance art, and twentieth century architecture seemingly jumbled together at every turn of its cobblestone streets. Trastevere is a quieter, more residential area across the Tiber River.  A short walk to some of the more tourist-driven pockets of the city, Trastevere is more likely to offer the visitor a glimpse of Roman life, from its morning markets and quiet, secluded daytime cafes to its more local nightlife.

Academics

In order to have an idea of what classes are available at John Cabot University during the summer, you should visit the John Cabot University website.

When looking for courses, be sure that you are looking at courses for undergraduate students only and that you are looking at classes in Summer Session I or Summer Session II.

You may choose to take either one or two classes in each session. The credit translation system between John Cabot University and Rutgers University is 1:1, meaning a 3-credit course at JCU will also be a 3-credit course on your Rutgers University transcript. It is not possible to take classes not-for-credit or pass/fail.

For information about Study Abroad credit transfer, registration, and transcripts please visit the Academics section of our website.

Housing and Meals

Housing
The Gianicolo Residence is JCU’s default housing option during summer sessions. It is home to a series of apartment-style student residences, a short walk from JCU’s classroom and dining facilities.  A typical apartment houses several students (double and triple rooms) and includes a common area, kitchen (stocked with tableware and basic cooking equipment) and bathroom. Apartments are simple but fully furnished. JCU provides a pillow, two sheets, two blankets and a bedspread for each student.
*Please note, there are differentiations in housing offered at John Cabot University.  Housing assignments are made at the discretion of John Cabot University. Should you request and be placed in single housing, you will be responsible for the pricing difference.

For more information on housing, please visit the John Cabot University website.

JCU Meal Plan
Students may request a meal plan for the JCU Summer Session. The meal plan is available to all enrolled students and can be used only at the Tiber Cafe in the Tiber Student Center.  Participating students are issued vouchers that can be used for a full meal at lunch time.

Students wishing to participate in the Meal Plan must submit the online contract. Students should be familiar with all of the terms and conditions of the Meal Plan as the contract is considered legally binding.

For more information on meal plans/dietary restrictions, please visit JCU's Dining Services page.
